Phoniatrie

The Division of Phoniatrics offers the complete range of diagnostic and treatment services in phoniatrics. What is special about our discipline is that we care for individuals of all ages from newborns (newborn hearing screening) to the elderly (swallowing diagnostics). A further emphasis of our clinical and scientific work is voice disorders.

As a university, we are committed to evidence-based methods, and the aim of our basic research is to establish standards for therapy and treatment. Implementation of the biopsychosocial model of disease is an elementary component of our work and includes the fields of logopedics and psychology. We see the latest technology and techniques as tools for providing diagnostics and therapy for patients as gently as possible.

The research unit iDN (interdisciplinary Developmental Neuroscience) that is assigned to our division is concerned with early detection of developmental disorders, prediction of developmental trajectories and therapeutic approaches in early childhood development. The focus is on motor, speech and language communication skills in the first years of life.

Markus Gugatschka

"As our most important means of communication, the voice has a special significance in a modern service-based economy. How to maintain its health and resilience as long as possible is the aim of much of our clinical work and research.”

Markus Gugatschka, Head of Division
